“Global Migration Film Festival” held on Monday and Tuesday



“Global Migration Film Festival” hosted by International Organization for Migration (IOM) collaborated with Maldives National University (MNU) and Maldives National University Students Union (MNUSU) has been held on Monday and Tuesday night at the “CA Auditorium” of MNU. The festival was divided into two sessions with the first session held on 23rd April, Monday night at 2000hrs while the second session was held on 24th April, Tuesday night at 2030hrs.

During the festival

The first session of “Global Migration Film Festival” was started by the recitation of holy Quran by an MNU student. Followed was the opening speech of the festival, given by IOM Chief of Mission for Sri Lanka and Maldives, Mr. Guiseppe Crocetti. Next in the list for the events of the night was a testimony by a migrant from Bangladesh to Maldives, Mr. Syful Islam. Followed after a panel discussion was a movie named “This is not Paradise”. A lot of students from MNU were in the audience for the session.

During the festival

Just like the first session, the second session held on Tuesday night was also started by the recitation of holy Quran by an MNU student. Followed was another testimony by a migrant of Bangladesh to Maldives. The next on the night was a movie named “Road to Dream”, a Bangladeshi movie played with English subtitles. Unsurprisingly, the second session of the night were filled with a lot of Bangladeshi workers from across the capital city of Male’.

During the festival

MNUSU worked with IOM as a partner of this festival and participated especially in administrative, technical and media works of the event. Mr. Adam Rushdhee, the Vice President (Academic) of MNUSU, was the in-charge of the event from MNUSU side. This has been the first “INTERNATIONAL” event of MNUSU this year, and we are expected to see more such INTERNATIONAL events being held or being participated by MNUSU, throughout this year.
